The Gnome Device Manager is the front end graphical user interface for the HAL system that handles all the devices connected to your computer. It is a helpful application to see and asses the hardware that your computer uses. Unfortunately the Gnome Device manager is not installed by default, but getting it installed is a snap.
There are two ways to install the Gnome Device Manager;
Method 1: Graphical User Interface mathod
1. Navigate to System > Administration > Synaptic Package manager
2. In the search box enter ‘gnome-device-manager’, hit enter
3. Once the Gnome Device Manager appears in the search results, select it for installation and click apply, Synaptic Package Manager will then download and automatically install the application
Method 2: Via The Terminal (ie the quick way)
1. Open a the terminal and enter the following command:
$sudo apt-get install gnome-device-manager
Follow the prompts and installation will be done quicker than you can make a sandwich!
Accessing the Device Manager
To access your newly installed device manager, navigate to Applications > System Tools > Device Manager.
